The Town of Mars Hill was Incorporated February 21,1867.
Nestled in the shadow of Mars Hill Mountain, the town of Mars Hill is small-town America at its best! Hard-working friendly people who take great pride in their town, lifestyle and heritage.
By virtue of its location less than two miles from the border with New Brunswick, Canada, the summit of Mars Hill is the first place in the United States to see the sunrise for nearly half the year, from March 25 to September 18. The first 50-star flag to see the sun in the U.S. was raised on July 4, 1960 at 4:33 A.M. Fifty national guardsmen gave it a 50-gun salute.
Another wonderful feature of Mars Hill is that the mountain is traversed by a section of the International Appalachian Trail, a 525-mile footpath that extends from Maine’s Baxter State Park through New Brunswick and Quebec to a grand finish at Belle Isle at the northern tip of New Foundland and the natural end of the Appalachian Mountains.
Mars Hill also provides world-class hunting and fishing, direct access to the state snowmobile trail system, miles of ATV trails, and New England’s first Wind Farm atop Mars Hill Mountain.
Big Rock Ski Resort and the 18 hole Mars Hill Country Club are also located in town.
Mars Hill is home to the Central Aroostook High School Panthers which currently boasts the State Champions in Basketball, Cheering and Skiing!
Take a look around, you won’t find a better place to live, vacation or run your business, Mars Hill truly is “a great place to live”.
